Welcome to
the Company of Wretched Strangers
We are the Wretched Strangers - oceans apart yet connected as we weave a series of stories displaying common themes from all over the world. This creative troupe of performers hail from both the United Kingdom and United States - specifically York, England and Bayfield, Wisconsin. Our goal is to provide entertaining stories from a variety of places and cultures. We intend to take a closer look at current and historical issues around the world asking our audience to look at things through a different lens, exploring our cultural commonalities and embracing our differences.
Were you part of our audience in York?
We are proud to share that our first ever production, An Evening of British, Native, and American Tales 1799-1942, was performed November 17-19th, 2022 in York, England at the historic York Mansion House. This production began late in the 18th century and traveled through generations to the mid-20th century. As our audience traveled through the evening they heard stories from historical York to the Great Lakes Fur Trade in La Pointe, Wisconsin to the tumultuous mid-19th century in the UK and more. Intertwined between these acts was traditional indigenous legends and tales performed by Native American artist Michael "Laughing Fox" Charette of Red Cliff, Wisconsin.
We were so very honored to have such a warm audience with us, and hope to bring our stories to Northern Wisconsin very soon!
